The All Climbing blog is now on Twitter. Not familiar with it? Twiiter can be described as a cross between IM and blogging. With access from the web, IM, email, SMS, and mobile, it seeks to answer the question “what are you doing now?”

Twitter has morphed into an interesting social network where you can easily follow what your friends as well as businesses and services are up to.

In the short term, I’ll be using Twitter to automatically notify my Twitter followers of new posts and related news. I’ve been using Twitter personally for months now and I really find it quite useful.

  1. hey, have you heard about speed climbing in the Pac Northwest, like Rainier, Shasta, Hood, Adams, maybe others? Lots of information and press to sift through – but, it boils down to a great current speed climber in Oregon, Dan Howitt who holds all OFFICIAL records on EACH peak, amazing! Official, that’s right, timed by people like Oregon Peak Adventures, Climb Max Mountaineering, Oregon Army Natiional Guard and on and on. Howitt’s times are amazing, 1:56min official ascent of Hood from the parking lot at Timberline Lodge! Done with a dog, that would slow you down tons! Sub 5hr ascent of Rainier! From the parking lot, 9+ miles 9000+ feet vertical to the summit! Beats the prior record of Jim Whittaker (Everest Legend) by 20 minutes, Jim’s was OFFICIAL too! Awesome guys! Timed by Climb Max people, Jacob Kamermeyer, Brogan Adams, I’ve met both.

  2. I’d like to email Dan if I knew how to discuss how he trained, how he did so much in so little time, all those records on those great peaks, dangerous peaks, how he decided on timers and as I heard he paid a couple thousand of dollars total between 2003-4. On the internet there are a lot of his summit photos and some start photos taken by his timers. Pretty cool.

  3. hey tina,
did you find any information. i moved to colorado from boston and regularly run up mt. elbert, very rough and challenging. i’ve never been to the glacier volcanoes but hear they are just horribly difficult to run. hence the ‘speedclimb’ technique on the glacier/snow.
those official times by Dan Howitt are incredulous! truly inspiring. and that they’re official is outstanding. it should really be a sport.

That is pushing super hard up Mt. Hood. Sweet Howitt did it officially timed in 1:56, 39sec. With his dog 🙂 man that’s intense. It makes it a lot harder with a dog compared to focusing on yourself. I saw some great photos of this climb..

  5. Dan Howitt definitely holds some records. . . . Anybody even remotely associated with the climbing community knows Howitt and his ‘claims’. The problem is, those claims have little to do with reality. On top of that, Howitt has made a career of crashing internet forums with a veritable army of avatars all claiming to have witnessed his exploits, and more insidiously, attacking authentic climbers who he has perceived to have wronged him.
