I wrote about this on my personal blog this morning, but it’s definitely appropriate to discuss here on All Climbing. This summer my wife and I will be moving to the Boulder area of Colorado. I say Boulder “area” because we’re not exactly sure where we’ll end up finding real estate we like, but the goal is to be within a 30 minute drive of Boulder for primarily business reasons (also discussed in the post on my other blog).
I’ll be visiting Boulder and Denver next week to start getting a better feel for the different areas to live and hopefully get some climbing in (Saturday looks to be sunny and low 60’s!)
I expect to be living there by early summer, but it will all depend on selling our house here and finding a new place to live out there.
I look forward to continuing my blogging on climbing with even more reporting on cool happenings as I’ll be much more near a climbing epicenter.

I definitely recommend the southern part of Longmont if you don’t need to commute to Denver. The real estate is much more reasonable and you’re only 20 minutes from Boulder. Plus you’re much closer to RMNP and Indian Peaks.
My wife and I are planning on moving out there this summer as well! Let us me know how things go for you.

Jeremy, thanks for the recommendation. We’re actually planning on looking at Longmont when we’re out there. I have noticed a distinct price difference when looking in the Longmont area. We were also thinking of Lyons (as well as Superior, Louisville, etc.) As close to the mountains as possible I hope…
ClimbingNarc – really? that’s great! Look forward to meeting you in person then. I will definitely be posting updates here and on my other blog as things progress. I’ll also be able to give you some referrals to realtors, mortgage brokers, etc. after we see how well they do for us.
Yeah, that would be great to know. Like you we are fairly flexible on location too. It will mostly depend on where we can find work. Any referrals you have to places seeking semi-qualified IT professionals would be great

Tom, I would definitely recommend you check out Fort Collins. I live out here in Utah and love to go visit Fort Collin, it has a great climbing scene and lots of cool people. Plus it is not that expensive.

I think you should try Loveland, Mead, Berthoud, Firestone and Longmont areas first. We live in Loveland and LOVE IT! Where should I live?? I’m very excited to be moving to Co a week from today, to start a new job in Golden. Here are some of the factors: I’ve climbed around Boulder in the past and know I like it there, but it seems like a pretty long commute. My work schedule should (!?) be fairly flexible and part-time, and I know I’m going to be a regular at some climbing gym in the evenings (although I prefer all the usual outdoor stuff – rock, alpine, ice, etc) I’d like to maximize climbing/cultural/life enjoyment and minimize commuting – any suggestions?
@Emily – Why not Golden itself and avoid the commute? You’d be close to Denver and still reasonable distance from Boulder. Plus you have quick access to the interstate to get up into the mountains.
Tom, Golden is definitely a possibility. I’m just not familiar with climbing gyms or crags in the area. Every place I visited in Colorado seemed appealing!
@Emily – I felt the same way. I was hoping to find areas I didn’t like, but they all seemed pretty great.
