This past Friday I had the opportunity to volunteer at the ABS Nationals. I’m not sure how they picked people for the various positions (pretty sure it was random), but I ended up being the judge for the first problem in the men’s open qualifiers. I mainly wanted to volunteer for two reasons. First, I [...]

Since I’ve been unable to climb the past couple weeks while rehabbing my flexor tendonitis, I’ve been trying to use my camera more. Yesterday, while touring my visiting parents around Boulder, I caught some nice images of some climbers at the Monkey Traverse area of Flagstaff. The following shots are from a pull-off above the [...]

You may have heard about the impressive recent ascent of the 45-foot high ball Ambrosia by Kevin Jorgeson on the Grandpa Peabody boulder in The Buttermilks, Bishop, Califonia. Big UP was on hand to film the ascent and UKclimbing.com describes Ambrosia as a “V11 boulder problem in to a 5.13a (F7c+) solo.” And Wills Young [...]

A few weeks ago, I had a chance to check out the bouldering at Morrison in Colorado. It was an unusually gray and cloudy day, so I didn’t get many pictures, but I did want to write up my mini summary of the area. First off, Morrison is the kind of bouldering area where you [...]

Lynn Hill has sent Chablanke (V11/V12) in Hueco Tanks, Texas making this the 7th female ascent of the problem. While it’s always to great to hear about strong sends from young(er) climbers, I’m always most impressed with news from climbers past the age of 40. I suppose it’s because as I get older I gain [...]

Somewhat of an older video (the ascent was in April of 2008), but great footage nonetheless – Dave Graham on the first ascent of The Island (V15) at Coquibus Rumont, Fontainebleu (via TubeGuide).

Recently I had a brief Twitter discussion with @WasatchGirl who is currently on an extended climbing trip. She was in Boone and wondering if there was any printed guidebook available. From my last visit I didn’t think there was any, but I did remember a few resources online that I had bookmarked. Unfortunately, I couldn’t [...]

Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder hosted a slideshow last night presented by Bob Horan, author of the new and highly controversial guidebook Bouldering Colorado. Honestly, I was hoping some of the book’s most vocal detractors would show up for an open debate (hopefully more entertaining than the VP debate happening simultaneously), but there was a relatively [...]
